The Amazing Dual Gifts of God -- The Word and the SpiritThe Day of Pentecost exploded onto the ancient world with such power that it forever changed the work of scribes and the production of books. The overwhelming demand for the written account of Jesus had no precedent in world history. As a result, the New Testament numerically eclipsed all the combined works of Plato, Aristotle, Herodotus, Euripides, Homer, and other ancient writers. The explanation for this phenomenon can be given simply: The book revealed Jesus as the access to God. While other writers informed the reader, the message of Jesus changed the reader. All church failure is directly related to congregations detaching themselves theologically and experientially from the Kingdom of God. Apart from the Kingdom and the Holy Spirit’s empowering, churches, pastors, ministries, have no power. None. They may have great organizational skill, great advertising programs, and possess the best technological aid, but in New Testament terms these are not power. They are deceptive counterfeits.

The next failure most churches make is to re-organize themselves into competitive, denominational groups that treat each other with suspicion and fear. Personal ministries frequently do the same thing. Jesus loved the church and gave Himself for it. So must we! But Jesus spoke of the church (ekklesia, Gr.) only three times in the gospels. In contrast, He spoke of His Kingdom some 130 times. Unlike modern Christianity, His focus was on the Kingdom. If we are to be like Him, ours must be also! Solemnly and slowly, with his index finger extended, Napoleon Bonaparte outlined a great stretch of country on a map of the world. “There,” he growled, “is a sleeping giant. Let him sleep! If he wakes, he will shake the world.” That sleeping giant was China. Today, Bonaparte’s prophecy of some one hundred and fifty years ago makes sense.

Today Lucifer is probably surveying the church just as Bonaparte did China. One can almost behold the fear in his eyes as he thinks of the Church’s unmeasured potential and growls, “Let the Church sleep! If she wakes, she will shake the world.” Is not the Church the sleeping giant of today? Continue reading “Today’s Sleeping Giant” »

A prophet “blows the whistle” on the things that are unreal, feigned, false, synthetic, compromised, the things that constitute a lie, and if people continue in their deception, it will constitute death for them. It is not death as biological termination but death even while they live. The prophet is totally committed to life. He has an uncanny ability to discern those elements of death that have become so normative in the lives of people. Jesus said: “I have come to bring you life, and that more abundantly.” We need to contend for life and oppose every kind of artificial, stultifying, pharmaceutical thing that even children are now taking to quiet their “disorders”. The prophet will cry out, he will intervene and intercede for the fullness of life. Any falling short of the full-orbed life that God has intended for men and women in their humanity in God is a measure of death. Continue reading “The Holy of Holies” »

The Gifts of the Spirit, aka, the charismata, or “the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good,” are much more precious to God than humans have ever understood. The following artcle by Charles Carrin shows just how precious.

The Preciousness of the Gifts of the Spirit
By Charles Carrin

Years ago on a flight out of West Palm Beach, Florida, we had just become airborne over the ocean when a boy sitting next to the window grabbed my arm. “Look out there!,” he spoke, “Look!” What I saw was one of the most magnificent sights of my life. Reaching down to the surface of the ocean and rising overhead as far as I could see was the full, unbroken circle of a rainbow. The color was indescribably brilliant with the lower part of the ring seeming to float on the surface of the water. There was not a gap in it—just the breathtaking color of God’s beautiful sign of Covenant (see, Gen. 9:13). Continue reading “The Preciousness of the Gifts of the Spirit” »

There are few things more controversial in the body of Christ than the baptism of the Holy Spirit and the accompanying gifts.

Much of modern-day Christianity sees the born-again experience as all there is to salvation. Many Christians oppose the belief that there is a separate experience of being filled with the Holy Spirit, and they especially oppose the validity of the gifts of the Holy Spirit for today’s believers.

That type of belief puts them in conflict with the book of Acts and the very teaching of Jesus. Those who experience the power of the Holy Spirit today are labeled as fanatics or heretics. But what does the Bible have to say? What did Jesus say about this? Continue reading “The Holy Spirit” »

I believe that one of the biggest reasons that the body of Christ hasn’t made a greater impact on our generation today is because of our failure to operate in the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Without a doubt, Jesus and the first apostles used the gifts like a bell, calling men to their message and confirming that God was truly the One speaking through them.

Hebrews 2:3-4 says,

How shall we escape, if we neglect so great salvation; which at first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed unto us by them that heard him; God also bearing them witness, both with signs and wonders, and with divers miracles, and gifts of the Holy Ghost, according to his own will?

The Lord bore witness to the accuracy of their message through miracles and gifts of the Holy Spirit. Continue reading “How To: Flow In The Gifts Of The Holy Spirit” »

This article is part 2 of 5 in the series Baptism in the Holy Spirit

The Baptism in the Holy Spirit, evidenced initially by the gift of tongues, is a separate and distinct experience to salvation that God offers to all believers. Both salvation and the Baptism in the Holy Spirit, however, are a work of the Holy Spirit. In salvation, the Holy Spirit comes to live within the believer — this is the regenerative work of the Holy Spirit. In the Baptism in the Holy Spirit, the believer is enveloped by and immersed in the Holy Spirit; that is to say, the Holy Spirit comes upon the believer in contrast to into the believer. These facts are clearly supported by Scripture and are exemplified by the experience of Jesus Himself, who is our supreme Model. Continue reading “The Baptism in the Holy Spirit & How to Receive It” »
