The Waning Authority of Christ in the Churches

The Waning Authority of Christ in the Churches

Let me state the cause of my burden. It is this: Jesus Christ has today almost no authority at all among the groups that call themselves by His name. By these I mean not the Roman Catholics nor the liberals, nor the various quasi-Christian cults. I do mean Protestant churches generally, and I include those that protest the loudest that they are in spiritual descent from our Lord and His apostles, namely, the evangelicals. Editors Note: This article appeared in The Alliance Witness May 15, 1963, just two days after the death of Dr. Tozer. Some have commented rightly that in a sense it was his valedictory, for it expressed the concern of his heart. HERE IS THE BURDEN of my heart; and while I claim for myself no special inspiration I yet feel that this is also the burden of …Read Article

The Evil Face of OUR Adversary!

The Evil Face of OUR Adversary!

The two untouched photographs above, published by national news services, capture the massive explosions of the World Trade Center twin towers on Manhattan Island after two terrorist-hijacked commercial airline planes slammed into the world famous 140-story skyscrapers. Readily discernible in the fire and smoke of the explosion, from both of the different perspectives of the photos, is the evil face of the true adversary behind these unspeakably dastardly deeds. These amazing photos ostensibly bear the very image of Satan himself, and presumably are God’s miraculous proof to us of the evil one’s existence and that he is the ultimate “terrorist” behind the hatred-driven havoc wreaked upon America on September 11, 2001. The image on the left bears the devil’s face against the backdrop of a distorted cross, representative of Satan’s counterfeit portrayals of himself as the Messiah. The image on the right bears a lion-like face a la the Biblical description of the devil who roams about on Earth “AS a roaring lion,” mimicking “The Lion of the Tribe of Judah,” and deceiving multitudes of untaught into believing that it is The Lion of the Tribe of Judah who is perpetrating the diabolical schemes that he himself, Satan, authors.

America Under Attack

America Under Attack

It was surreal for all Americans as well as people around the world to watch the events unfold on the TV screen, but especially to me personally, in that the WTC collapsing and decimation in a vital section of Manhattan was essentially a replay of what I saw in the dream. Without launching into detailed account of what the Lord has shown me concerning end time events particularly in this country, I will say that I believe these horrific acts of barbarism perpetrated against not only the bastion of freedom but also against the very precept of democracy are the beginning of a series of events that will precipitate international actions that will result in massive and wholesale global geo-political upheaval and modification; that is, “tribulation,” if you will. Tribulation that will cast the entire world into unprecedented trepidation, uncertainty, and a sense of insecurity the likes of which has not been known since World War II, and in many ways greater.

A Day to Remember, A Day of Victory

A Day to Remember, A Day of Victory

We come together today to affirm our conviction that God cares for us, whatever our ethnic, religious or political background may be. The Bible says that He is “the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles.”

No matter how hard we try, words simply cannot express the horror, the shock and the revulsion we all feel over what took place in this nation on Tuesday morning. September 11 will go down in our history as a Day to Remember.

Today we say to those who masterminded this cruel plot, and to those who carried it out, that the spirit of this nation will not be defeated by their twisted and diabolical schemes. Some day those responsible will be brought to justice.

The Shaking of All Things That Can Be Shaken

The Shaking of All Things That Can Be Shaken

There has been a great fall. More has come down than the great towers of the world’s financial center; it is the world itself that can never again be the same. What security, confidence or trust can mankind be assured when even its impenetrable symbol of defense, the Pentagon, is itself penetrated? It is not that systems of security have momentarily failed and can henceforth be remedied and strengthened, but system itself; that is, what is wrought by man and constitutes the assured, assumed verities of life and safety—the taken-for-granted foundations of being itself—are themselves forever shaken! Henceforth, nothing can be assumed as sure; no institution of society, even government itself, inviolable. The rudiments of civilization, law order, justice are overnight, in a day, collapsed, rendered undone. Men, moved by cold satanic calculation, without fear of imprisonment or even death, take with them unsuspecting innocent and defenseless thousands into sudden catastrophe. And this, stupifyingly, in the name of rectifying injustices or drawing attention to a wrong! Anything and everything goes when reverence and the respect for life have perished.

A Better Way To Pray

A Better Way To Pray

Decades ago, I was participating in an all-night prayer meeting bombarding the gates of heaven. I remember beating the wall and yelling, “God, if You loved the people in Arlington, Texas, half as much as I do, we’d have revival!” Immediately, my lightning-fast mind realized that something was seriously wrong with my theology. What was I thinking? Did I really believe I loved these people more than God did? No, not exactly. Like many Christians, I believed God was angry with the human condition, and it was up to me to turn Him from wrath and judgment. I was interceding, or so I thought, pleading with God on the behalf of others. What could possibly be wrong with that? As I learned later, a lot. Thanks for reading this article! The True Measure of Success in the Kingdom

The True Measure of Success in the Kingdom

In our American culture we glorify results and performance. The measure of our success is often the level of positive response received, monies raised, and number of people we gather. In this article I am examining if the above view lines up with biblical standards since, if the measure of success stated above is correct, then many of the great biblical and historic heroes of the faith were really miserable failures!

Hurt — How To Survive and Thrive When It Comes

Hurt — How To Survive and Thrive When It Comes

By John Stallings One second, and it happens! One careless mistake, transpiring in a fleeting flash of time, in “the fog of war!” The massive cannon is fired, and its deadly payload is screaming downrange locked-on to its intended target. There’s no way it can be stopped or retrieved now; its course is fixed and unchangeable. Problem is: YOU are the intended target, and its heading straight for you! And, the worst part of it all is that the person who fired it is a comrade, someone who was on your side. WHAM!! The missile strikes its mark and a ferocious and fiery explosion ensues! You’ve just been the unfortunate victim of every soldier’s nightmare — “friendly fire!” But, this is not Gettysburg,  The Battle of the Bulge, Pork Chop Hill, Baghdad, or Afghanistan. This is one of the most mystifying kind …Read Article

Protection From Deception

Protection From Deception

[Editor’s Preface:] Derek Prince was perhaps the most learned, lettered, revered, and renowned scholar identifying with the Charismatic Movement. At his death at 88 in September 2003, his ministry had spanned seven decades, six continents, and 140 nations. Over more than 60 years of ministry, he authored more than 50 books, many of which were published in more than 100 languages, and recorded 600 audio messages and 100 teaching videos. His internationally acclaimed radio program, Keys to Successful Living, launched two-and-a-half decades before his death has been translated into over a dozen languages and continues to air on broadcast stations and shortwave radio around the world more than seven years after his death. Prince’s exceptional educational background distinguished him from the small group of genuine scholars associated with the Pentecostal/Neo-Pentecostal universe. Born Peter Derek Vaughan Prince of upper-class British parents in …Read Article

Reclaiming Fatherhood and Restoring Fathers (Part 2)

Reclaiming Fatherhood and Restoring Fathers (Part 2)

This entry is part 2 of 7 in the series Reclaiming Fatherhood and Restoring Fathers

As stated in Part 1, it simply cannot be an accident or coincidence that the Old Testament concludes in the last two verses in the last chapter of the last book, Malachi, with this prophecy: “Behold, I am going to send you Elijah the prophet before the coming of the great and terrible day of the Lord. And he will restore the hearts of the fathers to their children, and hearts of the children to their fathers, lest I come and smite the land with a curse.” (Mal. 4:5,6) As I also stated at the beginning of this discussion, I believe the ultimate purpose of the prophetic, or at least the Elijah-type of prophetic ministry, those who operate in the “spirit and power of Elijah” (Lk. 1:17), is to restore fatherhood and reclaim fathers, both in the spiritual and natural realms. …Read Article

The Baptism in the Holy Spirit & How to Receive It

The Baptism in the Holy Spirit & How to Receive It

This entry is part 2 of 5 in the series Baptism in the Holy Spirit

The Baptism in the Holy Spirit, evidenced initially by the gift of tongues, is a separate and distinct experience to salvation that God offers to all believers. Both salvation and the Baptism in the Holy Spirit, however, are a work of the Holy Spirit. In salvation, the Holy Spirit comes to live within the believer — this is the regenerative work of the Holy Spirit. In the Baptism in the Holy Spirit, the believer is enveloped by and immersed in the Holy Spirit; that is to say, the Holy Spirit comes upon the believer in contrast to into the believer. These facts are clearly supported by Scripture and are exemplified by the experience of Jesus Himself, who is our supreme Model. Thanks for reading this article! Reclaiming Fatherhood and Restoring Fathers (Part 1)

Reclaiming Fatherhood and Restoring Fathers (Part 1)

This entry is part 1 of 7 in the series Reclaiming Fatherhood and Restoring Fathers

History and sociological statistics tell us that wherever and whenever there is an absence of fatherhood there is an increase in sin and rebellion, along with the resultant crime and corruption sin and rebellion engender societally. The produce of a dearth of fatherhood, both in individual lives and collective society, is disobedience of all sorts and kinds, both to God’s authority and God’s delegated authority — human authority (Rom. 12). Indeed, fatherhood is the expression or manifestation on earth of God’s authority. God is a Father — the ultimate Father. He created the human race out of His need for fellowship with someone other than Himself.

Feasting Without Fear

Feasting Without Fear

FEASTING WITHOUT FEAR By C.R. Oliver, PhD These are spots in your love feasts, while they feast with you without fear, serving only themselves. They are clouds without water, carried about by the winds; late autumn trees without fruit, twice dead, pulled up by the roots; raging waves of the sea, foaming up their own shame; wandering stars for whom is reserved the blackness of darkness forever.  (Jude 12,13) One of the great attributes of the early Church, as well as the nation Israel, was a matter of the fear they both produced in those outside their ranks. In Jude, the little power packed book that gave a second witness to those things brought out by Simon Peter in his second epistle, the author adds a bit of ingredient which addresses the amalgam which is the modern church. NONE fear …Read Article

The Loneliness of the Christian

The Loneliness of the Christian

By A. W. Tozer The loneliness of the Christian results from his walk with God in an ungodly world, a walk that must often take him away from the fellowship of good Christians as well as from that of the unregenerate world. His God-given instincts cry out for companionship with others of his kind, others who can understand his longings, his aspirations, his absorptions in the love of Christ; and because with his circle of friends there are few who share his inner experiences, he’s forced to walk alone. The unsatisfied longings of the prophets for human understanding caused them to cry out in their complaint, and even our Lord himself suffered in the same way. The man (or woman) who has passed on into the divine Presence in actual inner experience will not find many who understand him. He finds …Read Article

The Role of Fivefold Ministry (Part 2)

The Role of Fivefold Ministry (Part 2)

Fivefold Ministry is a matter frequently alluded to from the pulpit within many Charismatic and other Neo-Pentecostal churches and circles. Notwithstanding, such allusions appear to be little more than oratorical rhetoric, for the most part, because few churches make an earnest attempt to incorporate Fivefold Ministry within their ministry and structure. Certainly, I have never yet seen it in full and proper operation anywhere. Rather, for the most part according to what I have heard and witnessed, Fivefold Ministry and its function remains to be a shadowy and little understood matter to the majority of ministers, not to mention lay believers, including even those claiming to be Charismatic. Oh, some say they believe there is such a thing as Fivefold Ministry, which is more than can be said for the vast majority of so called mainline and Evangelical denominational ministers. …Read Article

The Hidden Cause Behind America’s Economic Collapse

The Hidden Cause Behind America’s Economic Collapse

Note from the Editor/Publisher:Yesterday was “Mother’s Day” in America, the day we’ve designated to give tribute to and honor the hundreds of millions of mothers in our nation, for all they have done and do in the vital role as mothers to and for us all. Everyone has a natural mother, though, sadly, some individuals, through various circumstances, were deprived of a relationship with their mother, or even knowing who their mother is or was. Nevertheless, a person cannot be born into this world without a mother. We all were conceived in the womb of a mother. Mothers are vital to our lives, in innumerable ways, and we are all born with a God-placed love in our hearts for our mothers—that’s why we’ve set this one day aside in our nation to honor and express to them in various ways how …Read Article

The Role of Fivefold Ministry

The Role of Fivefold Ministry

Fivefold Ministry is the ongoing surrogate ministry of Christ Himself to the Church—His Betrothed. All legitimate ministry emanates from Jesus Himself and is an extension of His ministry. Unless it emulates His ministry, it’s not legitimate ministry. Jesus’ three-and-a-half-year fleshly ministry is the model for all genuine ministry, and we can see in the Gospel accounts that Jesus functioned in all five of the Fivefold Ministry Offices. Fivefold Ministry consists of five functions or offices of function: apostle, prophet, evangelist, pastor, and teacher. The primary scripture enumerating these offices is verse eleven of Ephesians Four. Relationally these offices are horizontal, non-hierarchical, and non-authoritarian (cf., Mk. 10:35-45; 16:19; Lk. 22:69; Ac. 5:31; 7:55,56; Rom. 8:34; Eph. 1:20; Col. 3:1; Heb. 1:3,13; 8:1; 10:12; 12:2; 1 Pet. 3:22; Rom. 8:29; Heb. 12:23). These terms are not titles implying authority or entitlement of …Read Article
