Revisionism: How to Identify It In Your Children’s Textbooks

Revisionism: How to Identify It In Your Children’s Textbooks

Editor’s Note:  Many Christian home schooling families today utilize virtual public school curricula as part of their course work, due to the fact that it is affordable to low-income families. Oftentimes, the method of delivery (most of the course work is internet-based) makes for an easy and attractive fit for their children, whose parents are trying to do the best they can with what is affordable to their family. We applaud families who choose to homeschool their children and support believers in their efforts to raise up their children in the way they should go. We believe that the Lord looks favorably upon these Godly parents for the sacrifices they have made to ensure that their children are raised in “the fear and admonition of the Lord.” We also remind those parents to be ever-vigilant in monitoring the curriculum being presented to …Read Article

The Importance of One Vote

The Importance of One Vote

THE IMPORTANCE OF ONE VOTE By Mary W. Morgan, Supervisor of Elections, Collier County, Florida The most often heard excuse for not voting in an election is “my one little vote won’t make a difference.” Yet history is full of instances proving the enormous power of one single vote. In many cases, the course of nations has been changed because one individual ballot was cast, or not cast, depending upon your point of view. Consider this: Thanks for reading this article! America’s Most Biblically-Hostile U.S. President

America’s Most Biblically-Hostile U.S. President

When one observes President Obama’s unwillingness to accommodate America’s four-century long religious conscience protection through his attempts to require Catholics to go against their own doctrines and beliefs, one is tempted to say that he is anti-Catholic. But that characterization would not be correct. Although he has recently singled out Catholics, he has equally targeted traditional Protestant beliefs over the past four years. So since he has attacked Catholics and Protestants, one is tempted to say that he is anti-Christian. But that, too, would be inaccurate. He has been equally disrespectful in his appalling treatment of religious Jews in general and Israel in particular. So perhaps the most accurate description of his antipathy toward Catholics, Protestants, religious Jews, and the Jewish nation would be to characterize him as anti-Biblical. And then when his hostility toward Biblical people of faith is contrasted with his preferential treatment of Muslims and Muslim nations, it further strengthens the accuracy of the anti-Biblical descriptor. In fact, there have been numerous clearly documented times when his pro-Islam positions have been the cause of his anti-Biblical actions.

The Greatest Untapped Evangelistic Opportunity Before the Modern Church

The Greatest Untapped Evangelistic Opportunity Before the Modern Church

This entry is part 5 of 7 in the series Reclaiming Fatherhood and Restoring Fathers

I believe that we are involved in the greatest evangelistic opportunity before the church today: the salvation of millions of children under the evangelistic and discipleship ministry of fathers and mothers in the home. This is not the only mission field, to be sure, but it is perhaps the most neglected mission field before the church in our time. The Bible calls fathers to preach the gospel to their children everyday, when they “sit in their house, when they walk by the way, when they lie down and when they rise up” (Deuteronomy 6:7). A father is to pass on the knowledge of God to the next generation. He is commanded to expose his children day by day to the greatness of God, the perfections of His ways, and the great stories that explain His nature and character. This kind …Read Article

An “Open-Heart-Letter” to Primitive Baptists (and others)

An “Open-Heart-Letter” to Primitive Baptists (and others)

Charles Carrin is my dear friend. I know him personally, albeit far too briefly, having met him initially in the first part of the ’90s. Charles Carrin is the real deal, a genuine, Spirit-infused, Spirit/Fire-baptized, yet thoroughly humble “man of God!” Now an octogenarian for two years, he is a Spirit-ignited prophetic patriarch and elder-statesman to the Church Jesus is building, hailing from a by-gone and vastly under-appreciated era and personal wilderness experience but bringing forth with him a quality and quantity of wisdom manufactured and tempered in the crucible of trial, trouble, and tribulation that is not only rare, but genuinely rarefied. Words fail in attempting to describe the value and worth of “old soldiers,” in the words of General Douglas MacArthur, such as Charles Carrin, but perhaps the most fitting words are that he exemplifies the Scriptural phrase, …Read Article

Has Your Veil Been Rent?

Has Your Veil Been Rent?

Has Your Veil Been Rent? By Steven Lambert “And Jesus CRIED OUT AGAIN with a loud voice, and YIELDED UP His spirit. And behold, the veil of the temple was torn (rent, KJV) in two from top to bottom; and the earth shook and the rocks were split” (Mat. 27:50-51). On the Cross, Jesus used his last, remaining breath to cry out to God “again” with a loud voice, and then He “yielded up His spirit” to God, and died. At that very moment, the veil in the iconic temple in Jerusalem was rent, or torn, from top to bottom, as the Spirit of God, which had dwelt behind that veil burst forth, never again to dwell in temples made with human hands, but forevermore in human “temples” of the Spirit—i.e., Born Again, Spirit-infused Believers in Christ! The Gospel Of The Kingdom

The Gospel Of The Kingdom

What Is The “Gospel of the Kingdom?” By Charles Carrin The day that Jesus, as a young Jewish Rabbi, climbed the hill above Galilee, the world little knew it faced a moment of historic change. In that brief period, the congregation seated on rocks and grass was the first to hear His “Gospel Of The Kingdom”—the message by which He single-handily challenged world religion and philosophical thinking. Within a few decades that gospel had “turned the world upside down” (Acts 17:6). Beginning with the nation of Israel, which was thrown into immediate panic, to Rome, whose world-domination ended and its’ slavery system abolished, Jesus’ “Gospel of the Kingdom” brought cataclysmic change. Two thousand years later that gospel is challenging the very church which it established in the beginning. Jesus’ gospel is specific, exactly identified in New Testament doctrine, is not …Read Article

Five American Myths of Successful Churches and Ministries

Five American Myths of Successful Churches and Ministries

By Joseph Mattera In my reading of the word of God over the past 34 years I have noticed a keen difference between the biblical measure of success and the way many American churches seem to measure success. Many of the ways American churches measures success are in fact direct violations of the teachings of Jesus in Matthew 23. In this passage Jesus speaks against people loving titles, celebrity status, and desiring prominent places in public events. Through the centuries theology and church practice have been greatly influenced by the surrounding cultures. The following are my opinions regarding five myths for success that have crept into the church from American culture. Thanks for reading this article! 5 Truths About God’s Will

5 Truths About God’s Will

The will of God can be simultaneously wonderful and confusing to those who seek after Him—which is why recognizing its characteristics is essential to understanding God’s will. Here’s some help. A farmer in North Carolina lived on a beautiful farm that his family owned for many decades. When he died, his property—after being in the family for more than 200 years—was sold to one of the neighbors. As the new owner was walking in the field, he saw a large, unusual-looking rock just barely sticking out of the dirt. He took it home, washed it and took it to a jewelry store. The jeweler confirmed what the owner already suspected: The old stone that had been in the field for thousands of years was a large, uncut emerald that has since proved to be worth several million dollars! This gemstone …Read Article

About Personal Prophecy

About Personal Prophecy

Though the matter of personal prophecy is by far the element of the prophetic realm of greatest interest to the vast majority of Spirit-Baptized believers, it is not the most important. Nevertheless, personal prophecy is part and parcel of the present Prophetic Movement that has been nascent since the mid-1980s, and therefore requires some understanding and knowledge. In this article is presented a fairly simplistic overview of the matter of personal prophecy that is not intended to be an in-depth theological treatise on the subject. Herein, the term “personal prophecy” is simply a term used to refer to prophecy expressed to and pertaining to an individual person. Thanks for reading this article! Psychic Premonitions & Predictions

Psychic Premonitions & Predictions

“PSYCHIC PREMONITIONS” IMITATE THE HOLY SPIRIT’S “WORDS OF KNOWLEDGE” By Charles Carrin Soon after my Baptism in the Spirit I began teaching congregations how to recognize differences between the Holy Spirit miraculous gifts and the occult world’s counterfeits. Almost immediately a young man came to my hotel room seeking advice about a troublesome “spiritual message” he had received. It was this: On a specific, named day of the week, he was told that his wife and baby would be killed in a car wreck. He was even told the city where it would occur. The message, which claimed to be from God, further warned him not to tell anyone—not even his wife. When he reluctantly shared this frightening information with me, I immediately explained that he had received a psychic-prophecy. Thanks for reading this article! Healthy vs. Unhealthy Churches

Healthy vs. Unhealthy Churches

Contrasting Healthy and Unhealthy Churches By Joseph Mattera As a leader who has been the senior pastor of a local church in a major urban context, I have observed a fine line between what many deem healthy and unhealthy churches. I define a healthy church as one that is relationally functional regarding its top leaders (elders, deacons, trustees, pastors and ministers) and its regular attendees and membership. Also, a healthy church has organic growth based on a balance of outreach and in-reach, or pastoral and evangelistic ministry, as well as discipleship and organizational systems that perpetuate the vision of the church. The challenge of differentiating between healthy and unhealthy churches is that much of Christendom has adopted outcomes and methodologies that conform to a worldly standard for what we define as success for any enterprise. Jesus vs. The Occult

Jesus vs. The Occult

By John Piper I would like to begin this morning with a definition of the term occult. I designate anything as belonging to the occult that involves dealings with the world of spirits or of supra-normal forces which (dealings) are not oriented on Jesus as he is revealed in the Bible. With this definition I am assuming the reality of a spirit world and of mysterious supra-normal forces. I am assuming that the church makes a grave mistake when it says that supra-natural phenomena are restricted to another age or that only godly people can work miracles. Such a mistake lays the church open to the power of evil precisely because it refuses to recognize the presence of that power. The definition is also intentionally very broad. I mean to include everything from the most blatant Satan worship to the …Read Article

This November, Should We Choose a Liberal or a Mormon?

This November, Should We Choose a Liberal or a Mormon?

I wrote the following article for those who may be struggling over the apparent choices coming before us in the upcoming presidential election. My goal is not to tell you who to vote for or against, or even whether you should vote or stay home; this subject involves more than just this upcoming presidential election. I am concerned with principles of how Christians should generally view the democratic process. Even though the Bible was written in a time of kings and despots (and not bipartisan elections) we can look to Christian principles to create a framework on how we evaluate conflicting candidates in a democratic election. It may be that we will never have a near-perfect candidate (and we might not even agree on what such a candidate would look like), but there should be ways to evaluate the conflicts …Read Article

Cosmic-Level Spiritual Warfare

Cosmic-Level Spiritual Warfare

February 20, 1990 | by John Piper [Editor’s Note: Though this article was originally published in 1990, it addresses a topic we wholeheartedly espouse, and contains some poignant and Scripturally valid points regarding a little understood, oft disputed or entirely rejected subject. Of further significance is the fact that the highly-regarded and widely-acclaimed author is not known to identify with Pentecostal or Neo-Pentecostal theology, demonology in particular as well as ecclesiology. The matter of “spiritual warfare” is a truth that the End-Time Remnant Church Jesus is building needs to recover, embrace, assimilate, become knowledgeable and trained in, and engage in on a broader scale in order to offensively resist the strategic battle plans (“schemes,” “wiles”) of the real, unseen Adversary, the devil (Eph. 6:10-18; Jas. 4:7; 1 Pet. 5:8,9; et al.). Unfortunately, we recognize and lament, this is one of …Read Article

Are You Gathering a Crowd or Building a Church?

Are You Gathering a Crowd or Building a Church?

By Joseph Mattera In the past several decades we have seen massive church growth. Church attendance in the world is at an all-time high. Yet, in most places of the world, cultural decline keeps accelerating at an alarming rate. For example, in spite of now having numerous megachurches with over 20,000 attendees, social issues that undermine Judeo-Christian values like abortion, same-sex marriage and threats to religious liberty continue to be on the rise! This has often troubled many people who wonder why a nation like the United States could have so many people who claim to be Evangelical, born again believers (some estimate as many as 45 million, not including Roman Catholic, Orthodox, Episcopal and mainline Protestant churches) and yet far-left political leaders continue to be elected by people of faith. This is because many believers view entitlement programs, access …Read Article

Debunking The “Health and Wealth” Message

Debunking The “Health and Wealth” Message

By Jack Van Impe I want to deal with an important Scriptural issue, the Health and Wealth message and “prosperity truth.” Some ministers make statements such as: “It is not God’s will that anyone be sick. No Christian need ever suffer, furthermore, all believers should have a superabundance of material goods.” Such teachings sound attractive as their promoters pull isolated texts out of context. However, multiplied numbers of Christians are left in a state of despondency because they remain sick or poor. May I speak to every child of God who is currently experiencing deep trial and agony of soul? May I comfort the sick and impoverished? You are not out of the will of God! It is not sin or unbelief in your life that keeps you from being healed or becoming wealthy! Let’s allow the God of the …Read Article

Avoiding Strange Fire

Avoiding Strange Fire

Unfortunately, over the course of the more than two-decades since its inception, the enemy has been very busy sowing tares amongst the wheat of the Prophetic Movement. A plethora of false prophets are circulating around Charismatic circles who are offering up strange fire before the Lord as did Nadab and Abihu though they have not been commanded nor sent by the Lord. Claims of gold dust and angel feathers floating down from heaven, gold teeth and fillings miraculously appearing in people’s mouths, appearances of female “healing angels” who hover around the room above the floor, and all sorts of other strange manifestations are attributed as being supernatural works from God, the latest of which is coins supposedly supernaturally sticking to walls, purportedly held there by unseen “angels.” But, is it really God, or is it the false signs and wonders that the Bible warns will abound in the last days before the return of Christ by which even the elect shall be deceived “because they did not receive the love of the TRUTH” (2 Thes. 2:10)? In this article, Jonas Clark explains his view regarding some of these manifestations and how to discern if they are the real deal from God or counterfeits, false signs and wonders, authored by the Deceiver.

A Different Gospel Without Power

A Different Gospel Without Power

This Sunday, May 27, 2012, is Pentecost Sunday. It will be acknowledged and in various ways “observed” by many Christian denominations/groups, Pentecostal and non-Pentecostal. Though its real significance is largely lost on most denominations today, it is a day of commemoration of the original Day of Pentecost that occurred fifty days after the resurrection of Christ when the Holy Spirit was poured out upon 120 disciples who secreted themselves away in a small alcove that became known as, “The Upper Room,” awaiting the fulfillment of Jesus’ prophecy, “…you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now” (Acts 1:5). The Perilous Path of Doctrinal Deviation

The Perilous Path of Doctrinal Deviation

Doctrinal deviation, degeneration, and denigration, which is being advocated more and more by some Christian leaders of all stripes and affiliation as a bridge to so-called “unity,” is an extremely perilous path to travel. It is an undeniable and unavoidable law of physics that the most infinitesimal degree of deviation from a straight line results in a wider and wider angle of deviation as it extends forth. While it is so very true that the Church is guilty of “majoring on the minors, and minoring on the majors,” yet established foundational Truth, i.e., sound doctrine, cannot be violated or deviated in order to achieve Biblical unity.
